Hank Siegel’s 10 Favorite Things
Even though he runs a nationally known business, it’s the small things that the President and CEO of Hamilton Jewelers cannot live without
By Sarah Emily Gilbert
You can’t go through Princeton without noticing the half-timbered, Tudor-style edifice that proudly sits on the corner of Witherspoon and Nassau Street. A former Princeton dormitory, the stunning building holds historical significance to the community. Thus, it’s only fitting that it houses Hamilton Jewelers, a business that’s brimming with Princeton pride, fine jewelry, luxury timepieces, and striking home décor.
Hamilton Jewelers’ favorable reputation is rooted in its mission to gain the trust and loyalty of clients by acting responsibly and working ethically. For the past 103 years, Hamilton Jewelers has upheld its name, partly because its business values are also its family values. Just ask CEO Hank Siegel, the third generation of the Siegel family to become president of the firm.
Working for Hamilton since he was a teen, Siegel has become an expert on both Princeton and the jewelry business. Since he was elected president of the company in 1993, Siegel has maintained the excellence of the Hamilton brand while enriching its connection with the Princeton community. Aside from managing an award-winning, internationally recognized business, Siegel has served as a board member of McCarter Theatre, The Princeton Education Foundation, and The Greenwood Home for the Aged in Trenton – just to name a few. While it is clear that he is a busy man, when it comes down to it, Siegel is a family man. When he’s not helping his clients select the perfect jewel, Hank Siegel can be found spending time with his close-knit family, playing with his beloved Portuguese Water Dogs, or enjoying another one of his favorite things that are listed below.
Bruce Springsteen
Great music from the classic rock era – the late 1960s through mid-1970s (especially rare tracks and anything Springsteen), preferably played on vinyl!
My wristwatch collection
My wristwatch collection – there isn’t a better way for a man to express personal style than a wristwatch – a small machine on the wrist. My collection has been assembled over many years, and is focused on timepieces that have the ability to tell time in two or more time zones. I enjoy spending ‘quality time’ with each one.
Homemade ice cream
Fresh, homemade ice cream or sorbet made with locally sourced ingredients – I travel extensively and am always on the lookout for the ‘best’ local spot.
Walks through downtown Princeton
A morning walk through our terrific and unique town followed by daily dose of Small World Coffee.
My green briefcase
My green briefcase – I have had one for over 30 years. Many times, people recognize me because of it!
Great hospitality and service
Great hospitality and impeccable service – My business travels take me around the world, and I always look forward to a warm experience at a friend’s home or wonderful hotel or venue. I try to take the best of what I have experienced and translate it to the service we provide at Hamilton, and am proud that Hamilton has been recognized worldwide for providing a best-in-class experience in the luxury industry.
My Portuguese Water Dogs
Chloe and Isabella, our family’s two Portuguese Water Dogs – A pet’s unconditional love is always a reminder of what is truly important.
Working at Hamilton Jewelers
The amazing team at Hamilton who live our mission each and every day. I am extraordinarily proud that Hamilton remains one of the few heritage brands in America that is still family owned. Throughout our 103-year history, we have maintained the thoughtful balance of providing world-class product and service while keeping our culture of family proprietorship. This point of distinction translates to all areas of our business, and is a reflection of the way our team embraces Hamilton’s core values. We say internally that ‘we sweat the small stuff,’ and that often makes all the difference. I take every aspect of our business very personally, as do all of our team members, and that alters the client experience and level of trust immeasurably.
Pizza from DeLorenzo’s
A tomato pie from DeLorenzo’s in Robbinsville, where my family has enjoyed dining for four generations. The crust is incredible and the ingredients, superb. Hands down, the best in the world.
My family
My most incredible family – we are very, very close, and I love the fact that our sons, nieces, and nephew treasure spending time with each other as much as I do with my brothers.
