Summer Professional Training Program at Shakespeare Theatre of NJ
Named one of the “top 8 internships in the country by backstage.com,” the Summer Professional Training Program at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison is now accepting applications.
The annual program offers “Extreme Training” in all theatrical disciplines for early career theatre artists ages 18 and up. The 10-week multi-tier program, which draws students from all over the world, is scheduled to begin Memorial Day weekend and run through mid-August. It provides clear instruction, individual attention, and thoughtful and candid evaluation for students – all within a professional theatre environment.
Apprenticeships and internships are the first steps in the time-honored tradition of theatrical training. Throughout Europe and the United States, they are seen as the best way to enter the world of professional theatre and are considered vital supplements to one’s academic theatre studies. Training is offered in every aspect of the theatre, from acting and directing to arts administration and theatrical design. Participants learn to strive for excellence, and to relish the exuberance that comes from achieving it, within the context of an acclaimed regional theatre.
