History and Nature Hike at Institute Woods

Save your spot for a history and nature hike led by the Historical Society of Princeton (HSP) in the Institute Woods, at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), on July 20 or July 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. each day.

The tour exploring bits of history and the sights and sounds of the serene setting will meet at the Princeton Battlefield parking lot at 500 Mercer Street.

Participants will hear stories about the woods’ origin and the ways IAS mathematicians, physicists, and other academic members have engaged with the setting. Stops will highlight the history of early Stony Brook, the Battle of Princeton, the old Trolley Trail, the IAS establishment and Founders Rock, a special stop at the Swinging Bridge, and observation decks at the adjacent Rogers Wildlife Refuge.

The tour is limited to 10 people. The HSP lists it as a moderate to advanced hike, and notes that trails may be muddy or slippery at the time. Comfortable hiking footwear, water, and insect repellent are recommended.

More information, including a registration form, can be found at the HSP website here. Tickets are $20 each.
