John T. Unger makes sculptural fire bowls from scrap industrial steel that he cuts by hand with a plasma torch from his studio in Hudson, NY.

The firebowls are meant to have an immediate visual appeal, recalling shapes found in nature. Unger says that he “designs for permanence,” in an attempt to create objects that never go out of style. For all of his artistic inspirations, Unger’s firebowls are extremely functional. His work has been featured on HGTV and the DIY Network, as well as the New York Times.

The sculptural firebowls are suitable for wood, propane or natural gas use.
