Budding Performers Find a Stage at Café Improv

Are you a budding musician, poet, singer, or comic? Or are you an appreciative audience member who enjoys seeing talent evolve from the ground up? Either way, live performances of music, poetry, and comedy have been entertaining the crowd in the Solley Theater in the Paul Robeson Center for the Arts at the Arts Council of Princeton (ACP), 102 Witherspoon Street, for the past 30 years.

Each month (usually on the fourth Saturday), the live show runs from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission is $2, and $1 for ACP members. The next show is on Saturday, September 28.

A video of the performance is subsequently broadcast throughout the following month on Central New Jersey Network, at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Cafe Improv also eventually appears on Vimeo.com (though it may take a few weeks). Watch past Cafe Improv shows online.

Co-founded by Tom Florek, the event started with borrowed microphones and speakers in a small cafe room in April 1990. The price was $1, which went towards coffee, tea, soda, and popcorn for the performances. After a short time it became apparent that the event had outgrown the room, and in January 1991 it moved to the Loft upstairs where it has remained ever since (except for a period of renovations).

Café Improv has connected beginning and professional performers in the performing space. Serving as a musical haven for the Princeton community, Café Improv is a gathering place to share artistic ideas and provide inspiration to others. Attendees can expect an evening of local music, poetry, comedy, and more. Click here to learn more and/or register to play.
