Big Brook Fossil Hunting Excursion
On Saturday, September 24, join Monmouth Museum staff and New Jersey DEP’s lead environmental educator, Marc Rogoff, on a fossil frolic through Big Brook, one of the premier late Cretaceous fossil localities in the eastern United States. The Cretaceous period was a time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and New Jersey was submerged beneath a shallow inland sea.
Open to families and kids who are accompanied by an adult. Closed-toe water shoes or old sneakers are recommended. Attendees will also want to bring water, a trowel, and bucket or bag to hold their finds.
The day begins with a 9:30 a.m. meeting at the Big Brook parking lot on Hillsdale Road. After spending the day out in the rivers and streams, guests will continue to Monmouth Museum to identify the fossils that they collected under a high-powered microscope.
Admission is free, but advance registration is required: https://bit.ly/3qP4rAN
