“Art & Healing” at Monmouth Museum
Artwork from “Art & Healing: Expressions of Trauma and Gratitude”
The eight artists in the exhibition “Art & Healing: Expressions of Trauma and Gratitude,” have each experienced a life-altering cancer diagnosis. Thanks to the vehicles of art and storytelling, these patients have found a new way to communicate their personal struggles and experiences of living with cancer.
“Art & Healing,” at The Monmouth Museum in Lincroft, will host a special panel discussion with the participating artists on Sunday, April 14 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Situated on the campus of Brookdale Community College, the nonprofit organization aims to provide a destination for creative expression and lifelong community amongst its diverse population.
Liz Mitchell, a studio artist and former social worker, will facilitate the panel discussion. “Art & Healing” is curated by Karen Starrett of Ocean Township, an ovarian cancer survivor and one of the artists included in the exhibition. The other artists are Theresa DeSalvio, Shari Epstein, Arlene Mollow, Carol Radsprecher, Bob Rivera, Nisha Sondhe, and June Wilson. All of the individuals were practicing artists before their cancer diagnosis.
The Monmouth Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8. “Art & Healing” will be on view through May 19, 2019.
