Kwanzaa Celebration Dinner at Grounds For Sculpture

On Thursday, December 28 from 5 to 8 p.m., Grounds For Sculpture (GFS) in Hamilton will be honoring the third day of Kwanzaa. On this day, special attention will be given to Ujima, which means “collective work and responsibility.” The aim of Ujima is to build and protect community, aiding each other and solving problems while ensuring that no man or woman ever feels entirely left alone.

This evening is organized by the Outdoor Equity Alliance (OEA). The group will present the first ever OEA Changemaker Award to Aaron T. Watson, co-founder of the Outdoor Equity Alliance, executive director of the Mercer County Park Commission, and deputy administrator for Mercer County and director of transportation. Watson’s lifelong service to environmental advocacy and park equity in New Jersey reinforces the core values of the OEA.

For those who are unfamiliar, Kwanzaa is a secular, non-religious holiday, whose name translates from Swahili to “first fruits,” referencing the holiday’s association with harvest festivals. Kwanzaa is observed from December 26 to January 1.

The price per ticket is $200. An eight-person table can be purchased at $1,500. For tickers, visit www.groundsforsculpture.org/events/kwanzaa-celebration-dinner/ or call 609.586.0616. GFS is located at 80 Sculptors Way in Hamilton.
