Monday Movie Series at Princeton Public Library

For the entire month of July, Princeton Public Library will offer a free, new series featuring classic movies of the silver screen era. Audiences are encouraged to take a trip down memory lane with images from the 1940s and 1950s. Lemonade and cookies will be served at each of the film showings.

July 10: An American in Paris (1951 musical, 1 hour, 55 minutes) — A GI stays in Paris after the war to become an artist and has to choose between the patronage of a rich American woman and his infatuation with a French shop girl.

July 17: The Maltese Falcon (1941 film noir, 1 hour, 41 minutes) — San Francisco private detective Sam Spade takes on a case that involves three eccentric criminals, a gorgeous liar, and their quest for a priceless statuette — with the stakes rising after his partner is murdered.

July 24: The Philadelphia Story (1940 comedy, 1 hour, 52 minutes) — A socialite’s wedding plans are complicated by the simultaneous arrival of her ex-husband and a tabloid magazine journalist.

July 31: Rebecca (1940 mystery, 2 hours, 10 minutes) — Alfred Hitchcock directed this Oscar-winning Daphne du Maurier story of a marriage haunted by the aura of the husband’s dead first wife.

All films will be shown in the Community Room, which is wheelchair accessible. Assistive listening systems are available. Visit princetonlibrary.org for more information.
