On Tuesday, May 24 at 6 p.m., Hopewell Theater presents never-before-seen archival footage, personal photos, first-person narratives, and cutting-edge food cinematography that traces Julia Child’s 12-year struggle to create and publish the revolutionary Mastering the Art of French Cooking (1961), which has sold more than 2.5 million copies to date, and her rapid ascent to becoming the country’s most unlikely television star. It’s the empowering story of a woman who found her purpose — and her fame — at the age of 50 and took America along for the whole delicious journey. 

The film screening will be followed by a discussion on how Julia Child’s legacy still impacts and inspires cooks around the world. Discussion panelists will be Kristin Donnelly, Ian Knauer, and Supa DeRose, all of whom are cookbook authors and/or instructors. 

Supper Club begins at 6 p.m. and the film begins at 7 p.m. 

Explore the wide and expansive breadth of gastronomic talent and influence found in the Delaware River Valley with the Hopewell Theater’s Supper Club menu, prepared by RSC atelier. Please be advised that there are no allergy substitutions for the chef’s choice dish. Dinner includes complimentary dessert, coffee, and one water or soda per guest. 

Formerly the Rosemont Supper Club, RSC atelier is headed by two local chefs with over 40 years of combined experience in professional kitchens all over America. RSC atelier takes pride in sourcing as much local product as possible, cooking memorable food, and providing new ideas and techniques to a receptive and adventurous clientele. The Supper Club meal will be an ode to Julia Child and French cooking.
