Nakashima Foundation of Peace to Hold Celebration of Unity on October 6

 The Nakashima Foundation for Peace (https://nakashimafoundation.org) aims to build Sacred Peace Tables for each continent of the world and to preserve both the legacy of George Nakashima, a leading innovator of 20th century furniture design, and the National Historic Landmark designated Nakashima Property in New Hope, Pa., for future generations.

The organization will hold a Celebration of Unity marking the beginning of bringing a new peace table to life to join those already in place in North America, Asia and Europe on Sunday, October 6 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Nakashima Foundation Arts Building at 1847 Aquetong Road in New Hope.

A suggested donation of $125 per person is tax deductible and will fund the efforts of the Nakashima Foundation for Peace. Space is limited and registration is strongly suggested by September 30. The special event will feature the official unveiling of a restored mosaic, The Poet’s Beard,which was a gift of peace from artist Ben Shahn. The mosaic will occupy one wall of the Nakashima Arts Building. The October 6 event will be punctuated by music, meditation, light refreshments, and the planting of a ceremonial tree as a symbol of environmental conservation and preservation.

Guest speakers include Mira Nakashima, president of the Nakashima Foundation and creative director of George Nakashima Woodworkers; Vladimir Aituganov, master mosaic artist; and Elizabeth Allan, deputy director and curator at Morven Museum & Garden.
